A moving evening at the start of the Jewish festival of lights: Simon Wallfisch and Daniel Seroussi honour the music of the artists who suffered in Theresienstadt and return it to the stage. Shaped by Brahms’ “Vier ernste Gesänge” (Four Serious Songs) and Ravel’s tender “Kaddish”, music, personal experience and the radiance of the voice come together. Simon Wallfisch, opera singer and grandson of the cellist and Auschwitz survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, draws on his family’s memories when he sings – Anita was one of the last survivors of the girls’ orchestra in the German concentration camp Auschwitz. Daniel Seroussi, an award-winning pianist, accompanies him at the piano. Together they create a space for reflection and remembrance, in which unbroken humanity and creative expression are celebrated as a light of hope in the darkest of times.

This concert took place on Sunday, 14 December 2025.
